Event Reveals How To Do Business In China

THE Illawarra Regional Development Board and Illawarra Business Chamber are encouraging Illawarra businesses to consider attending a major seminar in Wollongong next week with 50 Chinese business leaders.
Learning to identify and seize new opportunities in China will be the subject of the unique two-day seminar at Oriental Expression restaurant in Keira St on April 21-22.The event is designed to give valuable insights and tips on conducting business in China.The chamber's Les Dion and Mark Grimson and the development board's Garry Langton and Peter Pedersen invited businesses to register by calling 8338 9099 or emailing sydney@bhia.com.au.More information is available at investillawarra@irdb.com.au.The seminar is targeted at businesses that might be interested in entering the Chinese market, individuals wishing to understand Chinese culture, government organisations dealing with China/Australia relations and businesses wishing to develop further skills in the China market.The first day will be about finding the right contacts, establishing strategic approaches to the Chinese market, identifying decision makers and learning Chinese business banquet etiquette with the staging of an actual banquet.The second day will include a networking lunch and will be about revealing the strengths of a business to maximise the company image, learning some easy Chinese phrases and identifying the dos and don'ts of face-to-face contact. BHI Architects, the NSW Chamber of Commerce, the Illawarra Regional Development Board, the Illawarra Business Chamber and the Australia Chinese Industry and Business Association are involved in staging the Business Success in China seminar.The second day will also include interaction with 50 Chinese businesspeople."They will get an understanding of what to do on the first day and the second day they would get the chance to practise it with 50 members of the Wenzhou Chamber of Commerce," Mr Pedersen said.Organised by BHI Architects and sponsored by China Insight Australia, the event will be hosted by China Insight Australia managing director Linda Yu who has 15 years' experience working in the Chinese and Australian business communities.BHI Architects director Mark Hitchcock said Ms Yu's experience included working for the Chinese Government in a department overseeing foreign trade and dealing with a myriad Chinese enterprises and institutions.She has an extensive government and business background and a deep understanding of east-west business relations.Ms Yu has also been a consultant to many Australian organisations who have successfully done business in China and now works for one of the biggest Chinese industry associations in Beijing.
